GEOGRAPHY PROGRAM

The graduate program in Geography is designed for those students seeking the M.Ed. degree. It serves as a minor teaching fi eld on the Master of Education degree.

Degree Plans

Master of Education in Elementary Education.

This degree plan is designed primarily for the elementary teacher. All such degrees originate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Students pursuing this plan should either hold elementary teacher certification or complete it prior to being awarded the degree. The degree plan requires the completion of a minimum of thirty-six hours of graduate credit, thirty hours of which must be in courses numbered 500 or above.

The major consists of eighteen to twenty-four semester hours in Education which are approved in conference with the elementary graduate advisor.

The minor consists of twelve to eighteen semester hours in Geography, in which the student has at least eighteen undergraduate hours.

A comprehensive examination covering course work in Education and Geography must be taken and passed prior to graduation. Students should be enrolled the semester in which they take comprehensive examinations.

Master of Education in Secondary Education.

This degree plan is designed primarily for the secondary teacher. All such degrees originate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and require the completion of a minimum of thirty-six hours of graduate credit, thirty of which must be in courses numbered 500 or above. Twelve to twenty-four hours of professional education course work are required (twelve hours minimum for minor and 6 hours minimum for a second minor). A comprehensive examination is required. Students should be enrolled the semester in which they take comprehensive examinations.

GEOGRAPHY COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

GEO 575 SELECTED PROBLEMS IN GEOGRAPHY. This course is designed for individual students who wish intensive supervision in their research or study of special topics in the fi eld of Geography. Credit 1-3.
